Cabrillo National Monument can be found at the southern tip on the Point Loma Peninsula, San Diego, California, United States. It is dedicated to Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo's landing at San Diego Bay, September 28, 1542. This was the first European expedition to set foot on the West Coast of America. In 1932, the site was designated California Historical Landmark #56. Cabrillo, like all historical units of the National Park Service, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in October 1966. Each October, Cabrillo Festival Open House takes place on a Sunday. The event commemorates Cabrillo by a reenactment at Ballast Point in San Diego Bay. The National Monument hosts other events, including Kumeyaay and Portuguese singing and dancing, booths selling period and regional foods, and a historical reenactment of a 16th-century encampment. Children's activities are also available. You can see San Diego's skyline and harbor from the park, Coronado, and Naval Air Station North Island.
